It was a traffic-ridden Friday night last June 16, and the late arrival of guests kept us on our toes. With this conundrum, the evening was clouded with uncertainty as we also set out to showcase, for the second time, the Wonggoys’ High Hello in a very different and more intimate setting.
A SPACE all of a sudden filled up with listeners who were looking forward to the music.
The femme fatales of Silingan ni Felicity opened the show with the kind of spunk that could wake sleepy eyes and somber moods.
J Russ tried something new by performing with a piano instead of his usual weapon of choice, the guitar. It was a pleasant surprise that emphasized the melancholy in his songs even more.
The men of the hour followed suit and performed all 9 songs off their sophomore album, High Hello, in their bare essentials. Performed with a full band but devoid of the spectacle of a full production, the crowd got to enjoy fresh takes on their songs and relished the stripped down versions.
The boys also launched their self-produced music video for “Never Too Late.”
