Just two days after Folk City by the Beach, we were back at the city for yet another unique installation of Folk City. This time, we went indoors and intimate with Folk City Lounge.
Folk City Lounge kicked off with electronic pop band Luxxx, followed by the sweet voice of Mary Anchit. Then, Ella Melendez played songs from her debut album, and was later joined by Mother Folker (Cattski) who jammed with Ella, singing backup vocals on a couple of songs.
The event was already well underway, yet unbeknownst to most, Gabriel Lynch and his band were still nowhere to be found. Incidentally, the event happened on the same day that US President Barack Obama was visiting the Philippines. This meant all flights (including Gabe’s) were delayed for at least a couple of hours or more due to the enforced “no flight policy” at the time. Talk about extremely bad timing!
The show went on though, and the folkers folked away. After an impromptu set by Mother Folker, Gabriel Lynch finally hit the stage with his band, making it just in the nick of time, and playing a mix of old songs and new from his upcoming album.
His heartfelt singing, notable guitar-playing and kick-ass personality all undoubtedly stood out, one could hardly tell he just came off of an eight-hour flight delay!
With a passion for music that’s almost palpable from offstage, Gabriel Lynch is one of those singer-songwriters that definitely deserves more recognition, and we couldn’t be happier with plans for upcoming projects that involve him and his music. Gabe’s single, “What Friends Are For” will be included in our upcoming Folk City Various Artists album compilation.
Here’s a sneak peek of the single, with Gabriel playing an acoustic version at Folk City Lounge:
Folk City Lounge with Gabriel Lynch was held at the GILT Artisan Lounge, Crossroads Banilad last April 29, 2014, Tuesday. The gig was part of Gabriel Lynch’s Southeast Asian tour called “Some of Us”. For more info on Gabriel Lynch, visit: http://thegabriellynchband.com/
