What made you write this song?

I wrote it for this person I liked at that time. The song is basically about the reservations we all have when it comes to “falling in love.” Which is normal, I guess. We always think of how badly it might end before we actually start, so I started writing a sort of reassurance because it seemed like a nice idea at that time. Sad to say, said person is no longer part of my ever so chaotic narrative, but at least I was left with this.

Describe the process/experience of creating this song from start to finish.

It took a lot of writing and rewriting, honestly. There were times when I thought the lyrics were off or the melody wasn’t blending well, or my voice wasn’t cooperating with me. Half the time I was hunched over my desk, guitar in hand, just writing and writing, and listening to recordings of the song, reviewing every part. It really was a long process of trial and error, and it sounds daunting but I had a lot of fun.

Lyrically, what inspires you? Do you do something or listen to someone to kick start your creativity?

I don’t know if it’s a bad or good thing, but most of the time when I write songs, I either have to be really happy or really sad, because that’s when I think human sentiment is the most raw, unfiltered. “Art is pain on paper”and all that jazz.

I read poetry or listen to Chet Baker when I want a bit of a creativity boost. Sleep and long showers help a lot too.

Does songwriting come naturally to you? Who are your biggest influences?

Songwriting is definitely something I had to work on – I’m still working on – because it’s not so easy to piece together music and emotion. I don’t think anybody gets it right on the first try.

For me, songwriting is like a muscle. You have to keep exercising it for it to get stronger.

Listen to Give In To Me:

Give In To Me Lyrics:

You’re too wary with loving me

It’s crazy

I get that feelings come and go

(Coz we’re) too young, too dumb

You say we don’t know

How to take

How to take

How to take things slow

But have a little faith in me

Now, baby

I’m not one to play around

(it’s true) we’re too young, too dumb

But we can learn to grow

And we can take

We can take

We can take things slow

Pre-chorus:

There’s no need to rush

It don’t have to be too much

All we right here is enough

So just think this through

Is it really worth the shot?

Until then, I’m begging you

Chorus:

Give in to me

Give in to me

Give in to me, love

2x

But I’m blindly walking over to you

So maybe

Stop your inhibitions and let fear go

Coz my heart can’t any longer

But we can take

We can take

We can take things slow

Pre-chorus:

There’s no need to rush

It don’t have to be too much

All we right here is enough

So just think this through

Is it really worth the shot?

Until then, I’m begging you
